St. Patrick’s Holywood Make Fantastic Debut at Flahavan’s Cross-Country Race
The trainers were well and truly laced up and ready to go this week as the cross-country team embarked on their first competitive race of the season at Londonderry Park in Newtownards. St. Patrick’s P.S. entered 30 runners into the Flahavan’s Primary School Cross-Country series organised by Athletics NI, with 18 entering the Fun Run races alongside our official race team of 6 boys and 6 girls.
With almost 500 children taking part, the competition was fierce and whilst we didn’t quite make the podium, it’s fair to say that St. Pat’s made a fantastic debut at the event. For the boys, Lorcan Auscher just missed the cut, sprinting over the finish line in fourth place with Conor Frier hot on his heels in eighth place. For the girls, Eve McKeown put in a fabulous effort taking eighth place in a very hotly contested race, Anniah Mason not far behind her. In both races, all six of our competitors finished in the top half of the group, which is an amazing achievement.
The bar is now set and we have high hopes for a St. Pat’s runner to get on the podium in the coming races. As Maya Angelou said, all great achievements require time (and more running!).
